Team Fort Worth Youth Services, Inc., was developed by Cynthia F. Guillory. The initial program concept was started in 1990 by Vera Price and Vonzell Thomas. While working in the Fort Worth area, Ms. Guillory and Ms. Price identified the need to provide additional support to young women and men who needed guidance from caring and positive adult role models. Many of these youth were at-risk of becoming involved in negative social activities and experienced some academic and social problems. Many of the youth were from single-parent homes. Ms. Price, Ms. Guillory, and Mr. Thomas saw sports as the ''hook'' or ''anchor'' to get young people motivated to succeed academically, not just in sports.

Over the past 13 years, the program has developed into a comprehensive program that addresses a broad range of needs for children, youth and their families. While basketball remains a mainstay of the program, the vision has grown to address the needs of youth through a holistic approach. The cornerstone of the agency remains the commitment to programming that helps young people to discover and develop their talents and strength

The program does not refuse services to any child or youth regardless of their background, social history or other criteria. Team Fort Worth Youth Services, Inc. believes that every young person has potential.
